Bad Pennies, by Marissa Glover

End over end, half thrown
half tossed, we stumble over each other

tumbling, like the token I took from my pocket
and gave to the air to make my decision
when you asked if I wanted the couch or the bed.

We are caught and slammed down,
                           turned over and exposed

as everything that covered us pulls away,
revealing the verdict.

                                         Heads, you win—
tails, I lose.

My coin elects the couch.
You get the bed and walk away to tuck yourself in.

Still dizzy from the gamble, I toss and turn all night.
