Ecotone, by Cai Draper

The leather-bound matter

of my father’s back in the water

is all in view. The deal maker

whose own family holds me

in the ecotone with dad

on the tip of my tongue.

So Greg is the name of the man

who rolls through the waves

I watch from shallows.

His thick unflinching front crawl

shifts my spine. I must follow.
